Roaming Writers in Richmond

roamingwritersjpegHere’s the flyer for one of my upcoming readings…(there’s one in Richmond & one in Baltimore.) All details under ‘events and appearances.’ I’ve been in a grad school hole for 3 years…it’s fun to be out and about again with other fellow writers from all over. Get in touch if you wanna roam with us or book a reading somewhere fun. Since all the indie bookstores seem to be dying, I think reading in venues like bars, art galleries, coffeeshops, etc. is a much better alternative to the corporate chains. I’ve read in those, too. But the more we can avoid ‘the man,’ the better. Let’s see what we can come up with: tattoo shops? public parks? back yards? Pool halls? Hair salons? Ideas welcome.

Roaming Writers Baltimore

dito-skylight-4The coolest thing about being in my old stomping grounds (the DC/Baltimore area) has been reconnecting with old friends–from crazy skinheads-turned-artists to addicts-gone-sober and punks-who-went-corporate, it’s been a kaleidoscope of surprises so far. Cara Bruce, editor of Viscera and author of many many stories, who I met in San Francisco, is now based in Baltimore. Dito Montiel, author of A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, who I know from LA, happens to be in Virginia Beach for a little while, so…we put our heads together and came up with a couple of shows (I like to think of it as a ‘mini-tour’) we’ll be doing in this area soon. To the left is a pic of Dito from our reading at Skylight Books last August. March 14th we’ll all be at Mina’s Gallery in Bmore, but look at the ‘events’ page for full details. Cara & I will also be offering a local workshop, soon…very soon.
